After attending a small print fest, I was really inspired by the screen printing styles and bright colors - especially while tackling tough topics like police brutality, local government, anti-poc and anti-lgbtq+ laws.
After a ton of recent anti-trans legislation and attacks on trans folks, I wanted to design a fun, joyful, and uplifting poster. I’ve always really loved the quote, “Trans Joy is Resistance.” I like the meaning behind it - that by finding the joy of being and loving yourself, it’s a form of resistance.
I also wanted to make something reminiscent of a screen printed poster. I tried to emulate this by using bright blocked colors and a white background.
I doodled some trans figures, using my partner as a reference for one of them. They look relaxed and content. I also added uplifting hands and caption.
After several months I revisited my original design and created the most recent iteration at the top. I focused on colors that more fit the trans flag and integrated the text amongst the figures.
